Breast Augmentation

What is Breast Augmentation for?

Breasts are an indispensable element of women's beauty and sexuality. By enlarging small breasts, a younger and more attractive appearance is achieved, as well as an increase in self-confidence. After this surgery, many women have started to wear the clothes they want. In addition, many women have stated that they have better sexuality with their partners after this surgery.

When and to whom can breast augmentation surgery be performed?

It can be performed on women who are 18 years of age and therefore have completed breast development. In very rare cases (breast asymmetry that is too much to affect the patient's psychology or Poland syndrome), it can be performed before the age of 18. Young women with small breasts or older women with slightly sagging breasts after breastfeeding often constitute the group that requests breast augmentation. In women with large and sagging breasts, a lifting/lifting procedure may be required in addition to breast augmentation.

How is Breast Augmentation Surgery Performed?

It can be performed under general anesthesia most of the time, and under sedation in some cases. One of the 3 incisions is selected for the implant to be placed in the breast (under the breast, nipple, armpit). Dr. T. OÄŸuz Acartürk prefers the under the breast incision for most of his patients and believes that this provides the best and most reliable results. In rare cases and in cases where the breast is very sagging, he prefers the nipple. A pocket is created for the implant to be placed by entering through a 4-5 cm incision made under the breast. This pocket is created under the breast tissue, fascia (muscle membrane) or muscle, depending on the patient's needs and the thickness of the existing fat tissue. The implant is placed in this pocket and the incision is sutured. There is no need for a drain. The surgery takes 1-1.5 hours.

How much pain is experienced after breast augmentation surgery?

Breast augmentation surgery is a very painless surgery in the hands of Dr. T. OÄŸuz Acartürk. Since it is usually placed in the membrane over the muscle, pain is minimized. In addition, pain is not felt for up to 18 hours with long-acting anesthetics applied to the surgical area. Pain is minimized with medications given and used after waking up.

What happens after breast augmentation surgery?

The patient can stand up, eat and be discharged the same day after the surgery within 3-4 hours. The patient will have a simple dressing on the incision site. She can take a bath after two days. She will come for a check-up after three days and then she can return to work, start her normal daily activities and drive. The breasts will be swollen and higher than normal for the first 2-4 weeks. This swelling will pass over time, the breasts will soften and they will take their places. It will take until the 3rd month to take their final shape. You should not do any sports other than walking for the first 4 weeks. It is also recommended to wear a sports bra day and night for the first 4 weeks. After the fourth week, you can do all sports activities except arm and chest movements and you can swim in the sea. After the sixth week, all sports activities are allowed.

What types of implants are used in Breast Augmentation?

The most commonly used implant type is round implants with a fluid silicone gel inside and a flat silicone shell outside. The gel inside can have different fluidity properties. The silicone shell surface can be smooth or rough. It can be round or anatomical in shape. The implant selection is shaped according to the needs of the patient, and is determined between the doctor and the patient during the preoperative consultation and examination. Dr. T. OÄŸuz Acartürk prefers round silicone implants with a soft surface in most of his patients.

Will there be a scar after breast augmentation surgery?

As with every surgery, there will be a scar in the incision where the implant is placed in breast augmentation surgery. However, breast augmentation is a surgery that heals very well in terms of scars. Dr. T. OÄŸuz Acartürk prefers the incision under the breast for most of his patients and thinks that this heals with the best scar. Although it seems to leave fewer scars in nipple applications, due to the cutting of the breast tissue and the relatively higher rates of capsule contracture, in recent years, incisions under the breast are the most frequently preferred and accepted as the safest approach all over the world. The incision made in the lower breast fold remains in the fold under the implant over time, and the visibility of the scars decreases greatly in the long term and takes on a natural appearance. In some rare patient groups, more visible scars can be seen, although not very often, due to skin characteristics.

Is there a loss of sensation in breast augmentation surgery?

Temporary loss of sensation or excessive sensitivity can rarely be seen in the nipples. Permanent loss of sensation is very rare and is usually caused by the use of overly large implants. The change in sensation usually completely resolves within a few months.

What kind of problems can occur after breast augmentation surgery?

Breast augmentation surgery is a surgery that gives very good results in the hands of Dr. T. OÄŸuz Acartürk and has high patient satisfaction. The problems that may occur are quite rare. Bleeding, infection and wound healing failure may occur in the early period. In the long term, there may be capsule contracture, asymmetry and aesthetic problems.

Does it need to be removed during pregnancy?

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the mother or baby are not affected by the implant. However, since it will change normally due to weight gain and milk retention, sagging may occur later. When the breasts reach their final shape after pregnancy and breastfeeding, a breast lift (mastopexy) procedure can be performed safely. Mothers with breast implants can safely breastfeed.

Do breast implants need to be changed?

Dr. T.OÄŸuz Acartürk always uses the new generation and the world's highest quality breast implants in his patients. These brands and companies guarantee replacement in case of problems caused by the implant. The rupture or leakage of the implant is a very rare situation in new generation implants. It does not need to be changed or removed.

Can breast augmentation be done with fat injections?

Breast augmentation with fat injections has been a hot topic in recent years. Fat taken from areas other than the breast can be transferred to the breasts to provide growth. However, considering that most women who want breast augmentation surgery are already thin, it will often not be possible to obtain enough fat tissue to enlarge the breasts. This is another important factor that limits the use of the method. In addition, since some of the transferred fat will be lost in volume (~50%), the procedure often needs to be repeated in women who desire larger volumes. Another option is to ensure the permanence of the transferred fat by using stem cell-enriched fat (~80%). Breast augmentation with fat transfer can be an ideal surgery for women who have enough fat in their bodies and are aiming for a low or moderate augmentation.
